Open letter to the Commissioner of Police

Posted by Dr Mu on November 24, 2011

PRE-ACTION PROTOCOL: Private prosecution for perverting the course of justice and hence putting my safety at risk.

Dear Mr RamperSad

You look rather melancholy in your photo on page 8 of the Police Magazine 2010. Were you depressed? I am sorry to say that this letter is unlikely to cheer your spirits much, so I have included one or two puns to help us both see the lighter side of this otherwise very sombre situation. It is indeed sad that circumstances have led me to the point of privately prosecuting you. However, once you are made aware of what has happened I am confident that you will empathise with my anguish and comply with my requests. Read the rest of this entry »

A testing time for CCID

Posted by Dr Mu on November 20, 2011

READER DISCRETION ADVISED. IMAGES CONTAIN FOUL LANGUAGE.

Dear Mr Vuddamalay [Assistant Commissioner of Police]

Please find attached yet more evidence associated with my complaint [against Jameel Peerally]. I am becoming concerned that the police are not performing their sworn duty. Unless action is taken swiftly it will be inferred that you and your subordinates are no longer part of the Mauritian Police Force but form a division of the Leader’s Gestapo. This will not be good for your career. If you don’t follow your conscience now, you had better kill me or you will be spending a very long time in prison. I am guessing more than one inmate will be happy to initiate you. So perhaps it won’t be so long after all.. Of course if something does happen to me, your complicity will surely be suspected as you have quite a strong motive don’t you think? I will be making a declaration against you as a precautionary measure. Read the rest of this entry »

All men are equal in the eyes of the law…

Posted by Dr Mu on November 16, 2011

…but are some more equal than others?

Yesterday Richard Munisamy, Director of WeLuvMu, made a statement to CCID complaining that Jameel Peerally had used foul language over the telephone. You may recall that Rama Sithanen, after he had openly criticised his party’s leader, was arrested for questioning for a similar offence. Moreover, Richard complained that Jameel had threatened his life/safety in a Facebook message. In the real world, such an offence of intent is only one small step removed from actually committing it. Defence or Attack?

Posted by Dr Mu on November 8, 2011

Aikido means “the Way of harmonious spirit”. It is a Japanese martial art that is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. Our fight is in defence of human rights, which the Director of Public Prosecutions attacked when he prosecuted the editor of Samedi Plus. If our defensive letter open letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions had been published in the press then the battle would have taken place before the public domain. But the press has remained silent, most probably still feeling intimated, despite the release from jail of their compatriot on the same day that we invited the President to intervene. In Defence of the Republic

Posted by Dr Mu on November 7, 2011

PRE-ACTION PROTOCOL: Case against Dharmanand Dooharika [OPEN LETTER to the Director of Public Prosecutions]

Dear Sir

WeLuvMu is a private limited liability company whose objects are to protect the environment and promote human rights. As a registered charitable institution we are compelled to adhere to these objects. Therefore we are seeking information prior to legally intervening in the case you have brought against Dharmanand Dooharika. Editor-in-Chief of Samedi Plus.

We are of the opinion that the said prosecution contravenes Section 12 of the Constitution which guarantees freedom of expression. Freedom of the press is an implicit component of a Sovereign Democratic Sate which the Republic of Mauritius declares itself to be. If the press is not free to publish the opinions of citizens as open letters without fear of prosecution , then is not citizens’ freedom of expression severely curtailed? In defence of the civil service and other things

Posted by Dr Mu on October 31, 2011

[Open letter to the President of the Republic of Mauritius]

Dear Mr President, SIR!

Remember me? I am the one who invited you to present the prizes for the MID Video Awards organised by We Love Mauritius in 2010. You declined without excuse. I also invited you to defend the Constitution and ban political parties from the last general elections. You declined then too without excuse, but I accept that you had a conflict of interest and so I reluctantly filled in for you. Now, will it be third time lucky? I think so… Read the rest of this entry »

The urgent need for electoral reform

Posted by Dr Mu on October 25, 2011

An Open Letter to Ashok Subron

Dear Ashok

Imagine during a general election, say because of constantly changing allegiances or because you believe in non-partisan democracy, you decide you don’t want to vote for any of the candidates of any political party. Either there are only two independents or only two you like, so you vote for them and leave your third vote blank.

When counted, your ballot paper is considered spoilt because you did not use your three votes. Is this not the same violation of your “democratic rights” (though for different ethical reasons) as you not filling in your candidature form completely? If you went to court, what would the judgement be? Read the rest of this entry »

Exploiting labour in Mauritius

Posted by Dr Mu on July 4, 2011

There is no denying that certain Mauritians accumulated their wealth through the exploitation of labour. Once the African slaves were freed by the sugar estates, they were replaced by impoverished indentured labourers from India. Rather than pay higher salaries more labour was imported, ensuring that supply outstripped demand.

In the 1980s the textile sector was introduced to the country and gave jobs to many of our women folk. Did this emancipate them or exploit them as they were exempt from the workers rights that men enjoyed? Whichever the case, history repeated itself when they expected better pay. They were replaced by foreign workers from countries whose citizens were more desperate than our own. What is shameful is that such a high level of exploitation exists today. MID Vision Statement

Posted by Dr Mu on May 6, 2011

Here is our take. What do you think?

By 2025, Mauritius will be a global leader in terms of quality of life. Our economy will serve this goal by providing equal opportunities and fair rewards in return for meaningful contribution to our collective well-being and supplying the highest quality goods and services to the world. Our society will provide security for every citizen, including food, shelter, health and personal safety. We will also enjoy the fullest freedoms of religion, expression and relationships, while respecting the rights and sensitivities of others and preserving and celebrating our diverse heritages. Our government will be transparent, accountable and inclusive, rivalling those of traditional democracies and our legal system and human rights record will be second to none. Our systems of education, training and development will be the best in Africa, permitting each of us to explore ourselves, discover our talents and achieve our full potential in any field, at any age. Our unique environment and biodiversity will be cherished, protected and, where possible, restored to its original pristine state, with each citizen and visitor enjoying equal rights of access and responsibility for its care. Above all, we will be a model of sustainability, ensuring that future generations enjoy a quality of life at least as great as our own and inspiring other nations by our example.
